What goes on in her mind...

Justin taught Lily how to spell (by repeating) the word "Dog". And it got me thinking about what goes in her mind when they repeat certain things. Examples: This past week while waiting at the Chiropractor's office Lily asked for a "Diet Coke, please". When instructing Lily to eat the rest of her dinner she responded "No, I too big." Also, Lily recently says "I chew", when we ask her to take another bite (but there is nothing in her mouth). The past two days, Lily has taken off her pants every time her diaper is dirty and says "I po-po, mommy". And when I ask her put her pants on she says "No,no I cold". [So, I think we will be starting the potty training soon.] Oh, and yesterday she woke up from her nap (in the car) and said very loudly "I love you, Gigi". And on a regular basis she says she dreams about butterflies, dogs and ducks.

Some Doctor News

As I wrote previous Nolan had his GI doctor's appointment this past week, and it went decent. There are no answers, yet. We have a few things to try and do and we meet back in one month. As of now, the Dr. is looking into a possible sugar that is in all the food that Nolan can't tolerate. One of the ideas the nutritionist suggested to try is to give Nolan avocados. (He has had them before, but not on a regular basis.) So, today, I blended up avocados and bananas together and Nolan inhaled it up like applesauce. Lilyann on the other hand was not so easily tricked.

Time for a nutrition lesson: avocados are a great source of good fat and easily digested. Also since it has a thick skin, the pesticides aren't easily absorbed into the good part.

I also took both kids to a sick visit with their pediatrician yesterday. We left there with this news: Lilyann has a double ear infection, so she was given an antibiotic. Unfortunately this is her sixth ear infection in a year so the Dr. referred us to a ENT specialist in order to get her hearing tested and tubes put in. And Nolan walked out of the Dr. office with an antibiotic. The gist of it is this: Nolan had an elevated WBC count about 1 month ago, so they repeated yesterday and it was elevated from the previous time. Since during the physical exam there was no sign of infection, no fever they decided to check for a UTI. (FYI-Do you know how they check for an UTI on a male infant?....not so fun) And, no UTI. So, the antibiotic is there to see if it brings the WBC count down... we go back in two weeks.
I see the pediatrician entirely way too often. I feel as though I need to invite her over for dinner or we need to go out for coffee. Lily gave her a "big hug and kiss", its like she's family.

I think that I am doing to get a magnet on my car that reads "Pediatric Medical Transporter". Cute?

Grocery Shopping

Today Nolan and I went to Whole Foods after he had his appointment with the GI clinic, to pick up some foods for Nolan to eat. I bought 7 containers of rice yogurt, rice cheese, whole wheat crackers, whole wheat pita bread, 2 packages of whole wheat bagels, three cans of organic soup, and a container of rice milk...total cost $51.00! What, are you serious?

Another thing I learned today...there is a "ingredient label language"? Apparently, because the nutritionist at Nolan's appointment gave it to me. The gist of it is this: don't trust what the label says...make it yourself. And, oh yeah! milk and soy could be in virtually everything.
Yes, I am venting a bit.

So my question to you is this: what did you eat today?

Picture day

Today we (my mom & I) took Lily and Nolan to their first professional picture appointment. So all morning we were practicing their "smiles for the camera". It was fun...Nolan was the show and Lily was reserved. (Which I thought would be the opposite) Excited to get the pictures back. It is still hard for me to believe that they are two and one.

Nolan's next dr. appt

So as some of you know, Nolan is going to see a GI specialist this coming week and I, his mommy have some mixed feelings about it. But, we are prayerful that we will get to the bottom of what is ailing our son. It is very hard to see your child be in pain and not know what I can do to help and your child not being able to communicate his hurts. I can say that having this experience has allowed us to examine what we eat and how we can eat differently. For those who don't know...the best way to explain is this: Nolan has a very sensitive tummy. So if he eats something wrong, he will be in severe tummy pain, be up in the middle of the night, cry uncontrollably & be irritable until the "wrong" food is out of his system.
It has been a challenge, but a challenge that we are walking through and will overcome.
